MICROPLASTIC SAMPLING SYSTEMS

FLOW-THROUGH SAMPLING

Our flow-through microplastic sampling systems can be installed to seawater intake on research vessels and ferryboxes. Unattended operation and the ability to use existing water infrastructure makes it a cost-effective alternative to surface sampling nets.

AUTONOMOUS OPERATION

Starting and stopping sampling is as easy as pressing a button on the flow meter and opening a valve. It can also be integrated to our ferryboxes or to a third-party system to trigger sampling automatically, based on time or GPS coordinate. Optional machine-readable flow meter allows to automatically sample a specified amount of water

COMPARISON TO MANTA NETS

Advantages

  • Lower risk of contamination

  • Weather-independent operation

  • No speed limitations for vessels

  • More reliable sampled water volume measurements

  • Unsupervised operation reduces sampling costs

Disadvantages

  • Sampling depth is restricted to the ship’s water intake depth

  • Requires more effort for initial installation on vessels

  • Sensitive to large amounts of biological material
